For the first time, Blackstar Amplification has hopped onto the lower frequencies with a series of bass amps. The Unity Pro series is designed for simplicity, power and versatility, and packs in enough muscle and features to practice and gig with.

The series includes five amps—they range from 30 to 500 watts—and a powered cabinet. True to Blackstar’s metal roots, all the amps feature a footswitchable overdrive or distortion channel, and a chorus effect, too. You’ll also be able to pick from three voices: the tube-inspired Classic, high-headroom Modern, and transparent Flat.

Moving up to the larger U250 and U500 models—250 and 500 watts, respectively—lets you tinker with your sound in greater detail. The pair has onboard sub-octave capabilities and Blackstar’s Unique Response Control, which gives you a choice between three power amp stages that range from the power of 6550 tubes to the punch of 6L6s. Additionally, these models have Eminence Opus speakers (1×15-inch for the U250 and 2×10-inch for the U500) as well as USB outs for direct recording.

The Unity 250 ACT active cabinets, on the other hand, have 1×15-inch Eminence Opus speakers and promise another 250 watts of low-end might. These can be daisy-chained together via XLR, and can also be used as a passive cab.

Blackstar has yet to announce US prices, but the Unity Pro series ranges from GBP199 to GBP579 in the UK, and will be available in spring. For more information, check out blackstaramps.com.
