Good news for Ernie Ball Music Man fans: At Winter NAMM 2018, the company showed off refreshed Cutlass and StingRay guitars and basses, as well as a new St Vincent dual-humbucker six-string.
St Vincent’s signature guitars
The “Marry Me” guitarist now has two axes in her signature line: a dual-humbucker and triple-humbucker model.
The dual-humbucker model is almost like a new guitar. It swaps out the DiMarzio humbuckers in the previous version for Ernie Ball Music Man-designed ones, and rosewood necks for a roasted figure maple one. While African mahogany remains the body wood, new colors—like the retrolicious Sea Breeze—are available.
On the other hand, the triple-humbucker instrument is a refresh of the existing model. A roasted figured maple neck is the only real difference; the 2018 guitar sports the same trio of custom DiMarzio mini humbuckers in the older version. Oh, and there’s no red finish this time ’round.
Both the dual- and triple-humbucker models will be available worldwide in June.
StingRay electric guitars
The brand’s flagship guitar, the StingRay, has been made over for 2018. It features a new roasted figured maple neck, ebony fretboard choice, vintage-spec’ed humbuckers and an African mahogany body. There are two new colors, too: Firemist Silver and Stealth Black.
The StingRays will be available worldwide in April.
Cutlass electric guitars
As with the triple-humbucker St Vincent, the only significant difference in the new Cutlass is its roasted figured maple neck. These models are still available in HSS and SSS pickup configurations, with similar Music Man-designed pickups as their predecessors.
The Cutlasses will be available worldwide in April.
StingRay 4 and 5 basses
The Stingray 4 and 5 bass guitars have enhanced body contours that are rounded for better playability, sculpted neck joints for easier neck access, and more powerful neodymium magnets in their pickups. In addition, Ernie Ball Music Man has upgraded the preamps on these models to deliver extra headroom, and crafted new, lighter aluminum hardware.
Both StingRays are available in the following colors: Classic Natural, Vintage Tobacco Burst, Ivory White, Chopper Blue, Black, Jet Black, Cruz Teal, Aqua Sparkle, Charging Green, Burnt Apple, Charcoal Sparkle, Dropped Copper and HD Yellow. They will be available in North America in July.
