Are you a fan of Bursts? If so, Gary Gand’s 1960 Gibson Les Paul Standard might just blow you away. If it seems familiar, that’s because it’s featured in the pages of the Vic DaPra book Burst Believers.

Nicknamed ‘Le Freak’, this LP may be fully refinished and re-fretted, but it retains most of its original parts, including pickups, hardware and tuners. We do, however, notice the guitar shows signs of having worn a Bigsby, with still-visible mounting holes poking through its subtly flamed, honey-toned top.

In Gary’s opinion, this Burst still beats out so many original examples. And for the purists who would dismiss a refin out of hand, Gary has this to say: “The greatest Les Paul in the world is Jimmy Page’s and that guitar was refinished, so what does that tell you?”
