The Money Shot: Fender Custom Shop Ron Thorn Masterbuilt Thinline Telecaster

Take a closer look at this beautiful axe commissioned by Coda Music.

70 years on from its first prototype incarnation, here’s a stellar example of what one of the leading lights of Fender’s Custom Shop can do with the Telecaster format here in 2019. Commissioned by our friends at Coda Music in Stevenage, UK, this Masterbuilt Ron Thorn Thinline is resplendent in a stunning two-tone Deep Cherry Metallic/Frost Gold relic’d nitrocellulose finish over a semi-hollow ash body.

Lollar Gold Foil neck and TV Jones Power’Tron bridge pickups combine to deliver a premium blend of clarity, grit and complex harmonics while the neck’s ’65 Strat C-profile and ebony fingerboard provide a smooth, comfortable ride. At £6,499, this is clearly a serious investment, but everything about this instrument oozes with the level of finesse you’d expect from a world-renowned luthier.
