The Money Shot: Rory Gallagher’s Magnatone 190
The subject of this month’s Money Shot is a very special amplifier indeed, kindly loaned to us by our friends at Gardiner Houlgate (www.guitar-auctions.co.uk).

Lot 271 in the 15 June 2017 auction is a 1960 Magnatone 190 Professional formerly owned by electric blues legend Rory Gallagher.
The 40-watt combo was one of Gallagher’s favourite studio amps and its array of tones ranges from beautiful, harmonically complex chime to ragged and raucous overdrive.
The stencilled and stickered flightcase is almost as appealing as the amp itself and it featured in a publicity shot for the Irish bluesman’s final studio album, Fresh Evidence.
It’ll no doubt make a very cool and toneful addition to someone’s collection…
