11 new pedals and effects units: March 2019

Our favourite new stompbox announcements, releases and rumours of the past month.

Every month, we compile a few lists of gear that’s fresh out of the oven. Here’s one devoted to new guitar pedals.

Keeley Synth-1 Reverse Attack Fuzz Wave Generator

Keeley Synth-1 Reverse Attack Fuzz Wave Generator

One of the standouts of Keeley’s NAMM 2019 offerings, this stomper is a guitar-triggered, single-note wave generator that produces fuzzy synth sounds. It is, however, also capable of some far out textures courtesy of a Chaos switch.

Zoom G1X Four

The Zoom G1X Four – launched alongside the G1 Four – is a multi-FX unit with 70 effects, as well as an expression pedal, a looper and an onboard drum machine. It also offers 13 amp and cab emulations of classic Fender, Marshall and Orange models.

Tech 21 SansAmp YYZ

Tech21 Geddy Lee SansAmp YYZ

The SansAmp YYZ is a collaboration between Tech 21 and Rush legend Geddy Lee. It can be used to drive a power amp and speakers, to expand your amp options, or as a DI into a mixer.

Anasounds Element Spring Reverb

The Anasounds Element Spring Reverb and Le Bon spring tank

This contraption functions in tandem with three external tanks, each with physical springs, for varying levels of cavernous sounds. The all-analogue pedal itself is designed to recreate the reverb tone of a Fender Twin Reverb.

TWA MiniMorph Dynamic Waveshaper

TWA MiniMorph

Modelled after the brand’s DynaMorph pedal, this small but ferocious filter/distortion unit is a must-have for TWA fans. Thanks to an envelope-dependent drive circuit, the type of saturation this pedal delivers is linked to the input level. Expect sonic weirdness ranging from fuzzy ‘burps’ to swept resonant filter sounds and more besides.

Zoom GCE-3 Guitar Lab Circuit Emulator

Zoom GCE-3

As its name suggests, this device taps on Zoom’s Guitar Lab software to provide effects, as well as amp and cab emulations. The list of effects at your disposal includes distortion, overdrive, EQ, compression, delay, reverb, flanger, phaser, chorus and more.

Old Blood Noise Endeavors Rêver

Old Blood Noise Endeavors has teamed up US-based band and creative force Datachoir on an interesting pedal dubbed the Rêver. This unique stomper combines modulated reverb, delay and reverse effects in one intuitive package.

thorpyfx deep oggin

The DEEP OGGIN is the brainchild of ThorpyFX and former Lovetone designer Dan Coggins. It’s a fully analogue chorus/vibrato that was designed to deliver three-dimensional chorus sounds and remain versatile enough for guitarists of every stripe.

TC Electronic Brainwaves Pitch Shifter

TC Electronic Brainwaves Pitch Shifter

This pink pedal is a modulation unit with two independent voices, four polyphonic pitch effects and a pressure-sensitive ‘MASH’ footswitch. The last of these works like an expression pedal, allowing you to bend pitch-shifted notes.

Walrus Audio Deep Six Compressor V3

Walrus Deep Space Compressor V3

The third iteration of this compressor unit introduces a tone knob, which allows you to govern the low end, producing a tone that can cut through the mix. This update also features a soft switch with relay bypassing capabilities, as well as top-mounted in/out jacks.

Morley Mini Classic Switchless Wah

Morley Mini Classic Switchless Wah

At the risk of pointing out the obvious, this is the smaller sibling of the brand’s original Classic Wah. Along with the new diminutive enclosure, Morley has also opted for an electro-optical design instead of a potentiometer, which can suffer from wear and corrosion which leads to noisy operation.
