Every month, we compile a few lists of gear that’s fresh out of the oven. Here’s one devoted to new guitar pedals.
The Tre-Verb is one of six pedals Fender has launched so far this year. It consists of independent tremolo and reverb effects, each with three modes. A couple of highlights include the Harmonic Vibrato mode, based off Brownface amps, and the ’63 reverb mode, which is derived from the brand’s iconic standalone tanks.
Spiral Electric FX Yellow Spiral Drive
The Yellow Spiral Drive is a multi-talented dirt box modelled after the DOD 250 Overdrive Pre-Amp. It does, however, have some modern tricks up its sleeve, including a Girth control – a six-way tone selector that adds low-end – and Nanolog Audio’s N2 Quantum Junction with selectable clipping options.
Joyo D-Seed II
The D-Seed II is a dual-channel, digital delay stomper with looping capabilities. This upgrade from the first iteration comes loaded with new algorithms and eight delay types: Space, Lo-Fi, Tape, Copy, Analogue, Filter, Modulation and Reverse.
JHS Space Commander
Following the news of Ryan Adams’ alleged sexual misconduct, JHS has decided to rebrand the VCR pedal as the Space Commander. Under the hood, the stomper retains the three 80s-inspired effects: hall reverb, swirling chorus and transistor-based boost. If you already own a VCR pedal, you can get the Space Commander makeover for $35 plus shipping both ways.
Crazy Tube Circuits Limelight
The Limelight is a vintage-inspired fuzz/distortion unit with three NOS Black Glass Germanium transistors. The stomper features an interesting Beam control knob that manages these transistors, taking you from gated fuzz to a fat clean boost to mkI / II style fuzz distortion.
Vertex Tone Secret
It’s no secret that this pedal is Vertex’s answer to classic TS units. It features two circuits: one inspired by the iconic Tube Screamer and the other, a solid-state version of the Blackface’s 12AX7-powered preamp stage.
Fredric Effects Utility Perkolator MkII
The second iteration of this pedal introduces a switchable ring modulation circuit to the design. This allows you to achieve splash-like octave effects. Fans of the previous version will be glad to know Frederic Effects has retained the Russian Germanium transistors and low pass filter on this new unit.
KHDK Electronics Paranormal Parametric EQ Overdrive
This Gary Holt signature unit is a limited-edition offering that aims to recreate the Exodus and Slayer guitarist’s incendiary tones. Contrary to what some might expect, this is far from an ordinary dirt box. KHDK Electronics has stitched together a parametric EQ and an overdrive circuit with plenty of controls to fine-tune your tone.
