Amptweaker Curveball Jr EQ/Boost

Amptweaker has unveiled its latest offering: the Curveball Jr EQ/Boost. True to the brand’s name, this multi-talented toolbox can be tweaked to suit a wide variety of tonal preferences.

The stompbox’s main feature, as previewed at Winter NAMM earlier this year, is a three-band active EQ with boost capabilities. It can be used at various points in a signal chain, functioning as a clean channel preamp or a gain booster with added drive-shaping properties.

Control-wise, the pedal features a master EQ section consisting of three knobs: “Low”, “High” and “Mid”. The former two need little introduction, but the mids are where things get interesting. First of all, it can be maxed out to produce a wicked cocked-wah tone. Secondly, there’s a “Mid” switch that toggles between three-band passive EQs from classic “US” and “UK” amps, and a “Thrash” setting that’ll take you into the metal zone.

Additionally, the pedal boasts a Tight circuit – comprising “Fat”, “Normal” and “Tight” presets – that tightens up an amp’s attack while gain is added to the mix.

That’s not all. By holding down the footswitch, the user can lock in EQ settings. Tapping the footswitch once more will engage a secondary volume boost of ten dB.

Retails for $190 (without power supply), $200 (with nine-volt supply), and $210 (with 18-volt supply). More information at amptweaker.com.
