NAMM 2020: Boss has issued an update to the premium model of its Katana range of amps: the Katana-Artist MkII.

The 100-watt combo now comes with additional tone variations, expanded effects as well as several “core updates” to its hardware and software. These include a Contour switch, solo boost, and external dual amp control. Contour offers three distinct voices that can be further tweaked on the Tone Studio app, while the dual amp control lets you chain a second Katana-Artist MkII for wet/dry setups, blending clean and distorted signals, and so on.

Software-wise, the Katana-Artist MkII offers five amp characters that include new voices, bringing up the total to 10 tone options. The new version also comes with five simultaneous effects categories – the first edition, in comparison, only had three.

Besides these, the amp retains specs such as a 12-inch Waza speaker, which the brand claims is able to “deliver ‘brown sound’ tones inspired by the benchmark 25-watt British stack speaker from the 1960s”.

The Katana-Artist MkII is the latest in a string of MkII updates to the Katana range. We reviewed the Katana-100 MkII recently, crowning it “the most practical of Boss’s smartly improved digital amps”.
