NAMM 2020: Crazy Tube Circuits channels surf-rock tones with the Killer V

NAMM 2020: Crazy Tube Circuits has revealed its latest pedal: the Killer V, an overdrive/vibrato pedal inspired by classic Magnatone and Fender amps of the 50s and 60s.

The Killer V utilises JFET technology and an internal voltage multiplier to provide tube amp-like dynamics and high headroom. An additional internal gain mode switch allows the user to toggle between Normal and Modified settings, the latter offering more gain on tap. The overdrive can be shaped with the two-band EQ on the front panel. Additional voicing can be explored via the B/N/M (Bright, Normal, Mellow) toggle switch, which alters the feel and behaviour of the preamp section.

The second half of the Killer V is defined by its vibrato, which was achieved by emulating the low-frequency oscillation and dual phase modulation stages of actual amps. This results in what Crazy Tube Circuits calls a “true pitch-shifting vibrato circuit”. Depth and speed knobs structure the flow of the vibrato effect, while an additional mini toggle switch allows the user the option of placing the dry signal in parallel with the wet signal for phaser/vibe sounds.

The Crazy Tube Circuits Killer V runs on an external nine-volt DC power supply, is wired for true-bypass switching and comes with separate footswitches for toggling the overdrive and vibrato effects.
