A new Deep Purple record is on the way, as frontman Ian Gillan recently confirmed on social media.

On 3 December, Gillan revealed in a Facebook post that the as-yet-untitled record was recorded March 2019 in Nashville with Bob Ezrin, who also produced their last two full-length albums Now What?! and InFinite.

“Bob Ezrin turned up and said ‘Let’s have dinner on Monday’,” Gillan wrote. “We… had dinner on Monday. Tuesday, we made another album and Wednesday we went to the pub…” He ended his post with a potential hint at a release date: “Perhaps, after another brief hibernation, all will become clear, in the spring of 2020.”

Deep Purple have also confirmed a short run of UK dates for 2020 with Blue Öyster Cult as tourmates. The tour will kick off at Manchester Arena on 2 October and wrap up at Arena Birmingham on 8 October.

Classic Rock reports that fans can look forward to hearing songs from the forthcoming album during the tour. “The band is cranking and full of it, plus there will be a couple or three new songs. Dunno how we’re going to squeeze it all in, but we always manage somehow,” Gillan said.

Earlier today, the band released Live in Rome 2013, the second record in a series of live albums in collaboration with earMUSIC. The series, which kicked off in July with Live in Newcastle 2001, collects rare live recordings from the band’s archives.

Deep Purple recently wrapped the US leg of The Long Goodbye tour, with their last performance taking place at The Armoury in Minneapolis (19 October).
