Paul Gilbert has announced his Great Guitar Escape 2020, taking place from 6-10 July next year at the Glen Cove Mansion in Glen Cove, New York. You can watch Gilbert’s introductory video above.

The theme of the event is players from Shrapnel Records, the label which launched Gilbert’s career – and was instrumental to the shred explosion of the 1980s.

Joining Gilbert for the event are George Lynch, Bumblefoot, Eric Gales, Greg Howe and Tony MacAlpine, as well as and Shrapnel Records founder Mike Varney. While the event will feature four days of workshops and masterclasses and star-studded performances, it’s not just about getting technique tips from famous players, as Gilbert puts it: “it’s not like simply going to a gig or even a clinic. This is about community and interaction between musicians, whatever your age or skill level.”

Gilbert, known for his fast shredding and affinity for Ibanez Iceman guitars, co-founded the rock supergroup Mr Big, and played guitar in 80s metal band Racer X. Paul Gilbert’s Great Guitar escape has been held annually since 2012.

Tickets for the event start at $1,999. More information at greatguitarescape.com.
