Pedals: The Musical is a celebration of stompboxes written by JHS Pedals’ Josh Scott

Pedals: The Musical, a musical on guitar effects written by JHS Pedals head honcho Josh Scott, is set to livestream on YouTube this coming weekend (13 and 14 March).

Pedals: The Musical describes itself as “the world’s first historically accurate musical comedy about guitar” and follows “in the vein” of comedies such as Saturday Night live, Schoolhouse Rock! and Monty Python.

It will feature music from YouTuber Rhett Shull and star a cast of local actors from Kansas City, Missouri.

The musical is an extension of The JHS Show, a weekly YouTube program on guitar gear and culture hosted by Scott.

Scott founded JHS Pedals in 2001, initially as a pedal repair and modification business. While the brand has gone on to achieve success in the boutique pedals market, Scott described the first few years of being in business as “brutal” when we spoke to him last November.

“A lot of guys ask for advice, because somehow [JHS Pedals has] made this name, and I don’t take that lightly, I take it really humbly, because I know how hard it was,” he said. “And people say, ‘What do I do? How do I make it?’ And I always say, ‘Just stick around.’ You can make great gear, but you’ve got to get beyond that, and it is difficult.”
