NAMM 2020: Fishman has unveiled the all-new PowerTap Earth and PowerTap Infinity pickup system for acoustic guitars, both of which feature a Tap body sensor designed to add texture and dynamics to the guitar’s tone.

The PowerTap Earth and PowerTap Infinity are compatible with the Rare Earth and Matrix Infinity pickup systems, respectively. Both systems feature an adjustable Blend control that can mix the sound of the Rare Earth or Infinity and Tap signals in mono. Players can also choose to run the individual pickup and Tap signals into separate channels with the use of a stereo cable – allowing users to add separate effects, level control and EQ to each pickup independently.

The PowerTap pickups can also be used on their own. The PowerTap Earth features active electronics, miniature batteries and a neodymium magnet structure for increased string clarity. Conversely, the PowerTap Infinity uses an enclosed, soundhole-mounted volume and tone control module, including a voicing switch.

At Summer NAMM last year, Fishman unveiled the Fishman TriplePlay Connect, a MIDI controller that’s designed to help guitarists build loops, play virtual instruments, add effects and more. According to the brand, it was meant to serve as the creative bridge between a player’s guitar and their iPad.
