The new Axe-FX III is a digital amp modeler and multi-effects unit that lets you choose from a vast range of sounds. Its main features include unprecedented digital processing power and an impressive virtual inventory. This gadget harnesses the latest amp modeling technologies, and also boasts more than 2,200 speaker cab simulations.

And boy is this piece powerful. Two 1.0 GHz Digital Signal Processors (DSPs) power the audio engine, giving the unit more than twice the amount of processing power compared to the other models in the Fractal Audio roster. The expanded collection of guitar effects—including those imported from the Axe-FX II—have all been updated to take advantage of the increased processing mojo. The equation is simple: More power means greater depth, detail, and dimensionality.

The Axe-FX III also comes with front panel upgrades—the comprehensive user interface now features a color display, while five push-knobs make for quick and hassle-free access to modify parameters. Other features include audiophile-quality components and 8×8 USB capabilities that make this unit an excellent audio interface. Two new footswitches—the FC-6 and FC-12—feature plug-and-play ease and let you remotely control a bunch of functions.

The Axe-FX III lists for $2,500 and will be available in March. For more information, check out fractalaudio.com.
