Adam Jones has teased what looks to be an Epiphone edition of his signature Les Paul Custom. If official, it could be a second chance for fans who missed out on picking up the Tool guitarist’s limited-edition Gibson signature models.

Jones teased the purported new Les Paul in an Instagram post yesterday (3 May) – sharing a photo of an Epiphone Les Paul hard case stamped with the text, “Adam Jones 1979” and captioning the post, “More prototypes.”

As Epiphone has yet to make an official announcement about the guitar, details on specs and a release date are still way up in the air. It remains to be seen if the Epiphone guitar will resemble its vintage-spec’d Gibson counterpart in features and looks, particularly that glorious Silverburst finish.

The launch of the Gibson Custom Shop Adam Jones 1979 Les Paul Custom got off to a rocky start when thieves made off with an entire pallet of the coveted instruments from a Sweetwater truck – worth about $95,000 in total – back in November 2020. Gibson responded by re-manufacturing the guitars for customers who had theirs stolen.

The Gibson guitar’s release was also accompanied by an impressive launch video co-produced by Jones, entitled The Witness. The seven-minute animated short featured a soundtrack composed by Jones and cameos from Tool’s bassist Justin Chancellor and drummer Danny Carey.

Stay tuned for more on the guitar as we know it.
