Atomic Amps has released a new ‘MkII’ version of its Ampli-Firebox, introducing a variety of new features to the digital modelling stompbox.

The box itself is a compact, high-end digital modeller, with a minimal interface – there’s a notable lack of a screen. Like the original, the MkII Ampli-Firebox has both quarter-inch and XLR inputs and outputs, as well as on-board time-based effects, a compressor, tone stack and noise gate. You can also still load in your own IRs for cabinet simulation.

New for the MkII is an updated interface for the accompanying editor app, a range of new amplifier models, a headphone jack, as well as an overhauled modelling engine.

On the face of the unit, you get controls for a three-band EQ, presence, master volume, channel level, presence and gain. Presets can be edited and saved with the on-board toggle switches or right footswitch, or via the USB connection at the top of the unit. Both footswitches are assignable, and can be set to change amps or engage effects. Holding the right footswitch will ‘lock’ the controls, meaning accidentally bumping the pedal won’t change your settings.

You can also choose whether the unit boots up in what-you-see-is-what-you-get-mode, or to load a certain preset.

The amp modeller lists for $399.95. Find out more at atomicamps.com.
