Balthazar Audio Systems has unveiled its latest all-tube combo, the Cabaret 13, designed as an ideal bedroom, studio and low-volume stage amplifier.

This particular model introduces a new preamp design from the brand that is said to be “capable of going from Brown/Blonde tones at lower volumes to classic British rage when cranked”.

This 13-watt combo’s preamp puts a focus on producing a thick and dark tone, and equips a tube quartet of three 12AX7s and a 12AT7. In the power amp section, there are two EL84s, as well as an EZ81 high-current rectifier. The amp’s controls themselves include treble, bass and level knobs.

In terms of its speaker, the Cabaret 13 makes use of the 10-inch Celestion G10 Gold, which should help supplement its low-end and emphasise mid-range creaminess.

Despite its compact build, the amplifier still sports an onboard tube-driven spring reverb with an Accutronics reverb tank, and a bias tremolo with intensity and rate controls. The latter can also be toggled via an included footswitch. Another thoughtful inclusion on the Cabaret 13, particularly for players from outside of the US, is the ability to switch between 120V and 240V operation via a convenient rear toggle switch.

Balthazar has also made it known that they intend to put out two larger versions of the Cabaret by the end of 2020: one with a 12-inch speaker, and a 30-watt version.

The Cabaret 13 retails for $1,999, learn more at balthazaramps.com
