Back at Winter NAMM 2019, Boss released the tech-heavy Nextone Artist and Stage combo amps. One of the main draws of these amps is the ability to edit tone from your computer via the Nextone Editor. Now, Boss has released a free version 2 update for this software, arming you with even more tools to personalise amp voice and tone.

The standout feature in Nextone Editor v2.0 is Character Shape, which lets you tweak the power amp with four EQ options: low, low-mid, high-mid and high. Complementing these EQ choices is a headroom switch that is designed to inject more punch into your tone.

The editing software now also features independent pre- and post- preamp EQ sections. Each section can either be viewed as 10 graphic sliders or parametric controls that let you fine-tune gain, frequencies and more.

In the digital effects category, Nextone Editor is beefed up with seven more boost types that range from overdrive to full-on distortion. You’ll also be able to assign the amps’ built-in effects independently to each of the two channels in a new custom mode. This means that you can have a tremolo-infused clean channel and switch over to a gain channel with analogue-like delay trails.

Elsewhere, v2.0 brings new import/export functions to the editor’s library, giving you more flexibility in working with different Nextone setups. And last, but not least, there are 20 new presets to play with, all of which are designed to emulate the behaviour of classic tube amps.

Here’s an overview of all the new features in Nextone Editor:
