Boss are celebrating the anniversaries of the legendary SD-1 Super Overdrive and MT-2 Metal Zone pedals with a special run of limited edition units for 2021.

The SD-1 Super Overdrive is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year; and the MT-2, its 30th. To commemorate these auspicious occasions, Boss has launched the SD-1-4A and MT2-3A – limited-run versions of each pedal in special black finishes that are just available this year.

The SD-1 was originally launched in 1981 and has been popular with guitarists the world over, offering a distinct smooth overdriven tone that builds off the legacy of the OD-1. The special anniversary edition of the Super Overdrive comes with yellow lettering and gold-capped knobs.

First released in 1991, the MT-2 is Boss’ second most popular drive pedal after the DS-1 Distortion. It offers a three-band active EQ with semi-parametric midrange for shaping the well-known saturated tone. The anniversary edition of the Metal Zone features grey lettering and black knobs, in a nod to the original.

Both pedals also feature a vintage silver thumbscrew for their battery compartments and commemorative boxes with their respective anniversary logos printed on.

The BOSS SD-1-4A Super Overdrive and MT-2-3A Metal Zone will be available later this June for $60 and $113, respectively.
