Brian Setzer has announced the launch of his official Reverb.com store, where he’s listed a plethora of guitars, from Gretsch models to Rickenbackers; guitar amplifiers including a ’63 Fender Bassman, as well as some more ‘out-there’ instruments like a silver sparkle upright Bass. The instruments officially go on sale 26 August, take a look at some notable listings below.
Gretsch 6120 Smoke Prototype
This hollow-body electric guitar is a prototype of Setzer’s signature Gretsch guitar, modelled after the 6120 model first introduced in the mid-50s. “People are very interested in the guitar that’s called Smoke, that Gretsch is making,” said Setzer on the guitar. “It’s an exact replica of the guitar I’ve played for 30 years. I’ve played it on all the albums and tours, on Sleepwalk and all those songs.”
“They’ve made two prototypes. This is the first prototype of the Smoke guitar. That’s a real nice-playing one.”
Leopard print Gretsch Hot Rod
Setzer played this eye-catching hollow-body electric during his appearance on the 2002 Disney film, The Country Bears. The guitar features a hand-painted design by Tom ‘TV’ Jones. Said Setzer on the model: “You better buy that quick. I might not sell that.”
The instrument used in sessions for Mini Bar Blues, the eighth track on Setzer’s 2006 album, 13. Setzer revealed that he made use of a special tuning in order to attain the distinct guitar tone on the track. “I achieved the unique sound by tuning the top two strings, the Bs and the Es, in harmony,” he said.
1963 Fender Bassman with 2×12 cabinet
Setzer has a penchant for ‘63 Fender Bassman amplifiers, and this particular one he described as “just perfect”. According to him, the blonde vintage amplifier has had replacements in its transformers and speaker cones, done by Setzer’s amp tech.
Silver Sparkle Upright Bass
This head-turning silver sparkle upright bass is said to have followed Setzer throughout his career from his early years with the Stray Cats to leading the Brian Setzer Orchestra.
