Japan-based Caparison Guitars has launched the Angelus-NH, a signature model designed for As I Lay Dying guitarist Nick Hipa. This instrument is a variation of the brand’s Angelus-M3B model, adding on new Schaller hardware and Fishman electronics.

The handcrafted model is built with a mahogany-maple-mahogany body and features a 5A flamed maple top. According to Caparison, this results in the instrument’s warm sounding timbre, rich sustain and a tight attack. Along with this, the Angelus-NH has a set-in maple neck and maple fingerboard with black oval inlays made of part abalone and black acrylic.

In the electronics department, the guitar equips duo active humbuckers, which are a Fishman Fluence Modern Ceramic in the bridge and Alnico in the neck. These dual-voiced humbuckers are controlled via two push-pull tone and volume knobs and a three-way switching system.

For hardware, this signature model equips a set of Gotoh tuning machines, a Schaller Floyd Rose Tremolo system and Schaller R2 locking nuts. The Angelus-NH comes finished in a transparent white gloss, which offers a subtle peek at its master grade flame maple top.

In a statement, Hipa wrote that he felt humbled and honoured to introduce the model as his official signature guitar. “This instrument is the perfect amalgam of masterful craftsmanship, creative artistry, and sonic versatility,” he said.

“For me, this handcrafted guitar is beautiful to behold, joyful to play, and delightful in its expansive tonal glory. It is a work of art engineered for professional utility. I look forward to championing its brilliance in the studio and across stages all over the world.”
