Chibson USA’s Placebo Pedal is transparent tone tech at its finest: it does “absolutely nothing”
The tongue-in-cheek pedal is not endorsed by Brent Hinds of Mastodon.
Chibson USA, the Instagram page dedicated to zany guitar memes, has partnered with Daredevil effects to launch the Placebo Pedal. It marks the pinnacle of transparent tone technology as it does literally nothing to affect your guitar signal.
The Placebo Pedal features a footswitch, status LED to let you know the effect is engaged and two control knobs labelled Dosage and Side FX. All of these, once again, do absolutely nothing to change your guitar signal.
However – if you feel so inclined – it’s possible to add an optional “classic fuzz” circuit from DareDevil for an additional $25, though the “upgrade” surely defeats the non-purpose of the Placebo.
Chibson USA announced the pedal on social media: “We spent over a year and a half of research and development bringing this pedal to life and we are proud to say…it does absolutely nothing.”
The Instagram jokesters have also roped in Brent Hinds of Mastodon and Gear Dogs for some hilarious promotional videos for the pedal – watch them below:
The Chibson USA Placebo Pedal is available in limited numbers at a discounted price of $99, down from its usual $1,496. You read that right.
