Cort has announced the new A4 Ultra Ash bass guitar, an addition to its Artisan Series of electric basses.
The guitar is a premium edition of the A4 Plus, and sports a natural finish over, unsurprisingly, an Ash top. Black accents amplify the grain, and lend the bass a 3D look. Other construction points include a mahogany body, a five-piece maple and panga panga through-neck, and a panga panga fretboard fitted with 24 frets.
In terms of electronics, there are two versatile Fishman Fluence Bass Soapbar pickups, which have multiple selectable voices for use in any genre or recording situation. The voices, selected with a mini toggle switch, are: Voice 1 (passive), a more vintage voice for classic, fat, and round tones; Voice 2 (active), suited for full frequency and full dynamics; and Voice 3 (active with a mid contour), voiced more for funk and modern scooped sounds thanks to the midrange shaping. A master volume knob offers a push-pull pot for the coil-split, alongside a pickup blend knob and a 2-band EQ for treble and bass.
The bass comes in at a 34-inch scale length, and is fitted with a Hipshot TransTone bridge, Hipshot Ultralight tuners, with its hardware finished in black to compliment the black highlights of the wood finish.
The tight string tension and focused sound provided by the 30-inch scale, as well as the versatile electronics and solid neck-through construction, should mean a wide sonic palette is within easy reach with the A4 Ultra Ash.
The bass lists for $1,999, and ships with a hardcase. Find out more at cortguitars.com.
