In some circles, there’s a trend for gear to become more stripped-back – easier to use, less complicated controls, and so on. Daredevil has released the logical conclusion of this trend, the Hype.

The pedal sports no external controls other than a bypass  footswitch. The effect itself is a high-output FET boost, aimed at those who want a simple boost effect to help a lead part leap through the mix. Alternatively, it can be used to push an amp’s front-end hard, creating natural breakup for thick, organic overdrive.

If the boost isn’t quite right, however, there is an internal trim pot for fine adjustments of the output level. But other than that, it’s free of any distracting knobs or dials. It runs on standard centre-negative power and comes with a 2-year warranty, with Daredevil saying that it will cover “repair or replacement of this unit for 2 years should it malfunction unless the damage occurred from operator misuse including incorrect power supply, any adjustment to inner components, or physical incurred damage.”

Take a look at Daredevil’s demo below:

The Hype lists for $89. Find out more over at daredevilpedals.com.
