Watch: Fender Custom Shop and Josh Klinghoffer introduce the Double Neck Marauder

Fender and Josh Klinghoffer have teamed up to show off a fresh build from the Fender Custom Shop: the Double Neck Marauder.

Described as an “amalgamation of the unique Marauder and Electric XII models”, the instrument made its debut on the fifth episode of Fender’s Dream Factory video series, which came out over the weekend (7 March). The Double Neck Marauder was created by Master Builder Carlos Lopez with input from cartoonist-designer Paul Frank.

The guitar features a two-piece ash body, two maple necks and two rosewood fingerboards. Its pickups – three single coils on the Marauder side and six split single coils on the XII side – were custom-wound by Curtis Novak. A master kill switch and push-pull tone control were also added to the Double Neck Marauder’s array of switches, which takes after those on both the Marauder and Electric XII.

The Fender Marauder was a ‘lost’ instrument design from the 60s, intended to follow the launches of the Fender Jazzmaster in 1958 and Jaguar in 1962. In 2011, Fender released the Fender Modern Player Marauder, a simplified version of the original.

Meanwhile, the Fender XII was introduced in 1965 as an instrument that catered to musicians from the burgeoning folk-rock music scene. It was reintroduced in 2019 as part of Fender’s Alternate Reality series.
