Fender has launched a signature Telecaster for guitarist Jason Isbell, after announcing the new model in January 2021.

The instrument is finished in a Road Worn Chocolate Sunburst, with double-binding and a fair amount of traditional Telecaster specs. Construction includes a 21-fret rosewood fingerboard, mid-’60s C-shaped neck, as well as an Alder body and black three-ply pickguard.

Electronics are a pair of Tim Shaw-designed vintage-voiced single-coils. These are wound a little hotter than regular vintage-style Telecaster pickups, for a little more of a Stratocaster-esque tone. The guitar’s hardware consists of a triple-brass-barrel-saddle, compensated Telecaster bridge, with tapered sides for extra hand comfort.

Isbell said of the guitar: “This collaboration with Fender is huge for me. I’ve owned and played Fender guitars since I was 12 years old and I consider their instruments to be a big part of my musical journey. I wanted to create a road-worn version of my go-to Telecaster guitar because you can enjoy the instrument without worrying so much about scratching it up! When I was a kid and got my brand-new Fender for Christmas, just holding the thing terrified me until it had a few dings and scratches on it. Then I felt more comfortable with it.”

You can take a look at Fender’s official demo for the guitar below, in which guitarist Eugene Edwards puts it through its paces.

The instrument lists for $1,499.99 / £1,339 / €1,499. Find out more at shop.fender.com.
