Gamechanger Audio has announced that its Light Pedal, after a year of honing the design, is available for purchase.

The stompbox has a unique approach to spring reverb. While it has a three-spring reverb tank in its centre, the vibration isn’t amplified the usual way. Instead, the stompbox uses infra-red optical sensors placed at intervals along the springs to “harvest the full timbral and harmonic range of a spring reverb tank”, the brand claims. “This method opens up a much wider range of frequencies, harmonics, overtones and textures that are otherwise lost in the mechanical reverberation process.”

This all-new approach is leveraged for an effects section that boasts things such as optical reverb tremolo, optical reverb modulation, feedback and optical harmonic shimmer. These can be reined in with the extended signal mix section. This allows for a very precise balance between the dry, classic reverb tone and the new and optical reverb signals. You can also stack various effects and control them with either playing dynamics or an expression pedal.

The launch of the pedal follows the successful run of the pedal’s preorder campaign that started in February 2020, as well as the first batch of one thousand units being distributed to the backers who supported this campaign.

See Gamechanger Audio’s video about the making of the pedal below.

The pedal lists for €289. Find out more at gamechangeraudio.com.
