A Gibson Les Paul Goldtop, signed by music legends during Bob Dylan’s 30th Anniversary Concert Celebration in 1992, has hit the auction block.
The guitar was signed by Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Eric Clapton, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Chrissie Hynde, Ronnie Wood, Tom Petty, Johnny Winter, Kris Kristofferson, Neil Young and Stevie Wonder.
Auction house Bonhams expects the instrument to fetch between £10,000 to £15,000 when bidding opens on 5 May, 11am BST.
The guitar itself is a ‘91 Gibson Les Paul Deluxe “Hall Of Fame”, a limited-edition model with an all-round gold finish. The mahogany-built instrument has Kluson deluxe tuners, two mini-humbuckers and a commemorative decal behind the headstock. It also comes with its own pink plush hardshell case.
The guitar comes from the personal collection of rock promoter Harvey Goldsmith, who helped organise Dylan’s 30th anniversary concert, according to the Bonhams listing.
“Only six weeks before the concert was scheduled, Bob Dylan personally called Harvey Goldsmith asking for his help with the project,” Bonhams wrote. “Although many of the acts had been approached by Dylan and his team to perform, it was only when they knew that Harvey was the promoter that they confirmed they would be available to play, many of whom had worked with Harvey previously.
“This concert was a huge event for Bob Dylan celebrating his career. It was also an important anniversary concert as it became one of the first big events of this nature to happen in the USA.”
Goldsmith is also parting with a 36-inch Paiste symphonic gong played by Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham and a Squier Telecaster signed by the Rolling Stones.
