NAMM 2021: Gibson has expanded its Modern Collection with Nashville-crafted ES-335 and ES-339 models, as well as its Original Collection with a non-reverse Thunderbird Bass.

Here’s a first look at the new models.

Modern Collection ES-335 Satin

Gibson has added the ES-335 Satin with pearloid dot inlays to its Modern Collection. This guitar – crafted at the brand’s Nashville operation – features a semi-hollow, three-ply maple and poplar body, paired to a mahogany neck and rosewood fingerboard. It also has a maple centreblock.

The rounded C neck profile, combined with 22 medium jumbo frets, offers players a traditional 50s-era playing feel. Meanwhile, the guitar’s Calibrated T-Type humbuckers harken to the Alnico V-loaded T-Tops of the 1970s.

The ES-335 Satin comes in a trio of subtle satin nitro finishes, including Cherry, Vintage Burst and Vintage Natural [seen above]. Each comes in a hard case and retails for $2,599.

Modern Collection ES-339 and ES-339 Figured

The Modern Collection ES-339 comes in figured and non-figured varieties – the former sports a AAA maple veneer top. Apart from that, the guitars are identical. Both feature the craftsmanship of Gibson’s Nashville operation and have a three-ply maple/poplar body and maple centreblock. The rounded C mahogany neck is topped with a rosewood fingerboard with 22 medium jumbo frets and acrylic dot inlays.

As for its humbuckers, there’s a 57 Classic in the neck and a 57 Classic + in the bridge. These are matched to 500K potentiometers and orange drop capacitors.

The ES-339 Figured is priced at $2,999 and comes in either Sixties Cherry or Blueberry Burst [seen above]. Meanwhile, the non-figured version will set you back $2,299 and comes in Cherry or Trans Black. Both ship in a hard case.

Original Collection Non-Reverse Thunderbird Bass

Gibson also announced the Non-Reverse Thunderbird Bass, which joins its Original Collection. Though the details on the new bass guitar are scarce, we know that it has a long-scale 34-inch set neck and comes in three finishes: Inverness Green, Sparkling Burgundy and Pelham Blue. Stay tuned for more on this model.
