Travelling abroad with a guitar can be a worrisome affair – there’s always the risk of leaving your case in a taxi as you rush to catch a plane, or having it misplaced by baggage handlers after it’s been checked in. Travel case manufacturer Gruv Gear is aiming to get rid of these worries, having partnered with HomingPIN to integrate lost-and-found technology into guitar cases.

HomingPIN operate a global recovery system, using custom tags encoded with a unique, permanent and anonymous identification number. This allows luggage to be returned if it’s ever lost, linking you up with the case’s finder via the service. Gruv Gear has integrated this technology into their Kapsule travel guitar case, as well as its cases for drums, drumsticks and music tech. Gruv Gear plans to include the technology into many more of their upcoming bags and cases.

The HomingPIN tags are based on a subscription service, with a free year included with purchase of the case. After that, the service is $6 a year.

The Kapsule guitar case also comes with a number of other features on top of the HomingPIN technology, including two-way humidity control, a powerbank to keep phones and tablets charged, and with enough extra storage for effects units, cables and other luggage.

Gruv Gear’s president, Jay Baldemor, said of the partnership: “we were looking for a robust, low-cost, and reliable asset recovery technology to offer our customers, many of whom are jetsetters and world-touring artists. Losing or misplacing luggage, instruments, and critical work equipment while travelling can be devastating. Our goal is to give customers peace of mind, not only with the quality and protection of the bags and cases we offer, but also security and recovery. Teaming up with HomingPIN has allowed the Gruv Gear to do just that.”

HomingPIN CEO and co-founder, Andrew Hopwood, said “we are delighted to be working with Gruv Gear to help protect all their customers’ bags, high-valued musical equipment and personal possessions. Like Gruv Gear we understand that a person’s belongings are more than just objects; the HomingPIN global recovery system greatly improves the chances of the owner’s belongings being recovered should they be misplaced or lost.”

The case lists for $399. Find out more about the Kapsule at gruvgear.com. Read more about HomingPIN at homingpin.com. For more gear news, click here.
