Guild has launched a new version of its Surfliner model – the Surfliner HH – which boasts a mightily comprehensive pickup switching system that allows for eight different combinations.

Currently available in Shoreline Mist and Canyon Dusk metallic colourways, the HH hosts a pair of Guild HB-2 humbuckers, which feature Alnico II magnets. These are designed to replicate vintage Guild HB-1 pickups in standard-sized humbucker housing.

Described by Guild as “a true workhorse that holds its own in rhythm and leads”, the Surfliner HH is said to bring “new soul to the classic Guild DNA”. It can deliver eight pickup combinations with its rocker pickup switching system, teamed with push/pull coil-splits on the tone knob.

The HH’s specifications elsewhere remain the same as the original Surfliner, which dropped back in the Summer last year and earned an 8/10 from us at Guitar.com as we coined it “an accomplished solidbody that offers more charm and versatility than instruments twice its price.”

It has a C-shaped maple neck with a 25.5 inch scale, a 6-inline headstock which Guild says is inspired by Jetstar guitar and bass variations from the ‘60s, a maple fingerboard with 10 inch radius, and through body stringing with a tune-o-matic-style bridge.

Check out the demo below to see how the HH’s pickup system works in action:

Guild’s Surfliner HH is available to preorder now for $499. Go to GuildGuitars.com for more information.
