Ibanez unveils five new guitars and a death metal-esque logo for the Iron Label series

The new Iron Label logo looks like it would be at home on the Maryland Deathfest lineup poster.

Ibanez has revived and revamped the Iron Label line, launching three new guitars and two new basses.

The new instruments all come fitted with a stripped-back set of features, aimed at creating crushing metal and little else. Their aesthetic is, of course, mainly sleek satin black, and the new guitars include two X-series models – some of the pointiest instruments Ibanez makes.

The brand has also given the series’ branding a do-over, with a new logo that pays tribute to the extreme metal the guitars are aimed at. The new Iron Label has clearly had a lot of design work put in, so to give it justice it’s reproduced in full below.

While the guitars all offer a variety of features, each one comes finished in satin black, with a matte grey logo on their headstock and black hardware, down to the pickup covers.

XPTB620 and XPTB720

This X-series guitar comes in both a six- and seven-string version, with very little variation between the two. Both offer an Edge-Zero II vibrato bridge, Ibanez’ own version of a floating double-locking tremolo, as well as a pair of DiMarzio D-Activator pickups. These are passive humbuckers, featuring ceramic magnets for an aggressive attack.

Construction in both cases is an okoume body, with a five-piece wizard-profile through neck, ebony fretboard and 24 jumbo frets. Both the six- and seven- string versions bear a 25.5-inch scale length.

ICTB721

This extra-heavy version of the Iceman comes with seven strings, an ebony fretboard with 24 frets and the same okoume body and five-piece wizard through neck as the X-series Iron Label models. Again, there’s a pair of DiMarzio D-Activator pickups, but no double-locking tremolo this time. Instead there’s a Mono-Rail hardtail string-through bridge.

BTB625EX

This single-scale five-string bass bears two passive Bartolini BH2 pickups, as well as 24 stainless steel frets set in an ebonol fretboard. Construction includes a five-piece maple and walnut neck running through an okoume body. The bass’ scale length is a consistent 35 inches.

Electronics include a three-way selector to adjust the behaviour of the mid-boost and cut knob, selecting three different frequency bands. There’s also a pickup balance knob, a master volume and treble/bass boost/cut knobs.

SRMS625EX

This five-string multi-scale bears similar construction to the above, with a five-piece maple and walnut running through an okoume body, topped with an ebonol fretboard and 24 frets. Electronics are also the same as the BTB625EX, with the addition of a switch to bypass the EQ section.
