IK Multimedia has announced AmpliTube 5, the latest edition of its flagship amp and effects modelling software. Its major additions include over 100 new gear models, a reworked cabinet section and a new mixer window. The software can be run standalone or as a plug-in for most DAWs.

AmpliTube 5 will feature 129 new amplifier, cabinet, microphone, stompbox and rack effect models. Reworked signal routing will let players put together complex virtual rigs, complete with support for up to three amps and 57 effects simultaneously; wet-dry-wet configurations, and both parallel and serial routing talents.

Legacy models – from the AmpliTube Custom Shop platform – will still be compatible with the software. The Max edition of AmpliTube 5 will offer access to all current artist and brand collections, for a total of 400 models.

The cabinet section has been revamped, and now lets players position virtual microphones against virtual speakers in a 3D grid interface. The tech behind this is what the brand calls “Volumetric Impulse Response”, in which 143,000 impulse responses, 600 for each speaker of each cabinet model was captured. IK Multimedia claims that this will offer player “true-to-life” cabinet sounds with “millimetric precision”.

Another addition to the software is a new mixer window, which lets players finesse their guitar sound – by blending cabinet, microphone and DI signals – within AmpliTube 5 itself. A selection of 19 rack effects are also available to give tracks more studio-esque polish.

Other improvements made to AmpliTube 5 include an updated, fully scalable graphic interface, and a revamping of the AmpliTube Custom Shop, where players can buy new add-ons.

AmpliTube 5 is set to release in Q4 2020 in three editions. The standard edition will launch with an introductory price tag of $99 (usually $149.99).

Meanwhile the decked-out AmpliTube 5 Max is priced at $299. Like previous versions of AmpliTube, a more barebones Custom Shop edition – which lets users build up their collection from individual add-ons – will also be available for free.
