IK Multimedia has announced the Axe I/O Solo, a two-in/three-out USB audio interface aimed at guitar players. This is a more portable and budget-friendly version of the brand’s larger Axe I/O.

The Solo is equipped with a Class A PURE microphone preamp, designed for transparency and accurate tracking. To adapt to guitars with active pickups, an active/passive switch can be toggled to bypass unneeded gain stages, keeping recording as flat as possible.

For intentional colouration on the other hand, there’s a JFET mode, which introduces an input buffer to add mid-ranged harmonic enhancements to a signal.

The Z-Tone control from the Axe I/O also makes a return appearance on the Solo. This impedance-adapting circuit interacts with guitar pickups, and can be increased to tighten up and sharpen sounds, or lowered for achieve thicker and bolder tones.

Reamping is also made convenient on the Solo, with a dedicated amp out socket on its front facing panel. Players can use this to integrate their amplifiers without an external DI box. And to ensure recordings stay as quiet as possible, this has been set to automatically eliminates ground loops.

Other notable features on the Solo include dedicated inputs for external controller pedals and switches, MIDI in/out and a monitor knob for blending between direct and DAW-based monitoring. Check out the Axe I/O Solo in action below.

The Axe I/O Solo comes bundled with IK Multimedia’s AmpliTube 4 plug-in, and is available at $/€249.99.
