J Rockett Audio Designs has announced its latest pedal, the Broverdrive. The unit is a versatile overdrive, that ranges from dynamic crunch to saturated gain.

J Rockett’s Chris Van Tassel said the pedal came about  as that the brand didn’t want “to make something that wasn’t another derivative of a tube amp in a box or another Tube Screamer copy.”

Regardless of tone, the pedal does draw some inspiration from the green classic in terms of controls, with a combination of three knobs for level, tone and gain. Aside from stainless steel construction, true-bypass switching and a replaceable speedswitch, the pedal also features unwavering commitment to its design idea: the knob labels are all similar portmanteaus of ‘bro’ – ‘levbro,’ ‘brogain’ and ‘brotone.’ These labels are awash in a sea of other portmanteaus: ‘brotato chip,’ ‘bronoculars’ and ‘bromosapien’ to name a few.

Aside from the unique looks, the pedal promises a ‘chewy’ tone, with a smooth, mid-focused character to slice through a mix.

The pedal is available now, listing for $199. Find out more at rockettpedals.com.
