Aguilar Amplification, the brand best known for its bass amplifiers and pedals, has been sold to Korg USA.

The acquisition was officially announced on 6 January. According to press statement, Korg will be directly investing in a new entity called Aguilar Musical Instruments LLC.

“This is an excellent way to kick off 2021 and we are excited to add the well-respected brand of Aguilar to our portfolio,” said Joe Castronovo, President of Korg USA. “For over 25 years, Aguilar has become a name synonymous with quality. We will continue to maintain that reputation and look forward to our future collaborations.”

Aguilar co-founder – and all-round bass wizard – Dave Boonshoft will be staying on as a consultant leading product development.

“This acquisition is an important step forward to help us take the brand to the next level,” Boonshoft said in a statment. “Partnering with Korg, one of the most reputable names in our industry, presents an opportunity to work with a world-class team focused on improving our capabilities and growing our business”.

Aguilar’s factory address in New York and staff will remain unchanged, and orders will continue to be fulfilled under the same procedures.

Last year, Aguilar celebrated its 25th anniversary with the launch of a special, clean silver run of all its pedals.
