In 2002, Gibson gifted Les Paul a White Custom 50th Anniversary Les Paul to commemorate half a century of partnership. The exclusive guitar has now been listed on Reverb by Paul’s longtime luthier and tech Tom Doyle.

This particular instrument is noted to be a favourite of Les Paul’s – not only did he pose with it for the cover for his autobiography, he also often chose to play the white axe despite having a large trove of guitars. The guitar was also tweaked to the icon’s liking, boasting frets that hung slightly “over the binding on the neck”.

The White LP is being offered in a Collectors Package that comprises the guitar’s original case and the following memorabilia:

  • The original framed photo used for the autobiography*
  • A custom black pickguard*
  • Photo of Les Paul signing the pickguard
  • Historic promo photo of Les and Mary*
  • Photo of Les Paul and Paul McCartney*
  • Les Paul’s “Author’s Proof” copy of his autobiography featuring this guitar on the cover

*Signed by Les Paul

The asking price for the Collectors Package is $250,000, with 10 per cent of the proceeds being donated to the American Cancer Society.
