Paul McCartney recently showed off the guitar gear he used on his home-brewed album, McCartney III.
In a new instalment of Reverb’s Show Us Your Space segment – where artists exhibit their recording setups – the Beatle walked readers through some the equipment he used on the sessions for the new record. McCartney III, as you would expect, sounds nothing like your average DIY bedroom pop LP and with a gear list that includes a vintage Telecaster and Hofner bass, it’s no wonder.

’54 Fender Telecaster
This mint condition ’54 Tele was a gift from McCartney’s wife, Nancy. It features on the tracks Pretty Boys and Lavatory Lil, ran through a vintage Vox AC30. A classic match-up.
’63 Hofner 500/1 Bass
Of course, McCartney’s iconic violin bass also features on his third self-titled album. This is the ’63 Hofner 500/1 which he’s played across dozens of recordings and onstage at shows around the globe.
Hofner Time And Again delay
A lesser-known fact is that Hofner also produces several boutique effects pedals. The Time And Again delay is one such limited-edition pedal that sits on McCartney’s current pedalboard. This analogue delay features a bucket-brigade delay chip and three simple controls: echo, feedback and blend.
Meanwhile, Paul McCartney and producer Rick Rubin have teased a new “documentary event” that will take a dive into the music and history of The Beatles. Along with the upcoming release of Peter Jackson’s long-awaited Fab Four documentary, 2021 is shaping up to be an especially retrospective year for Beatles fans.
