Mr Black Pedals launched a new entry into its line of mini pedals, the OD-503. The pedal was initially teased by a blurry Instagram photo, and speculation that the unit is an overdrive has been confirmed.

The pedal is a light overdrive that aims to, as Mr Black says, enhance “the drive and natural harmonic content of your instrument, effortlessly giving you even more of what you already have and love.”

The light, transparent tone of the pedal is governed by a set of three knobs: output, treble and drive. The treble functions like a passive tone control might, rolling off high-end content for a smoother tone. The nature of a low-gain overdrive like this means minimal compression – great for guitarists who want an extra bit of saturation and bite without sacrificing dynamics.

The pedal features true-bypass operation, as well as daisy-chain friendly 9VDC power. Its enclosure is small enough to require offset input and output jacks – so should slot right into your board without too much of a reshuffle needed.

The OD-503 is handmade in Portland, Oregon, where Mr Black is based. The manufacturer offers a range of mini effects including chorus, octaver and tremolo boxes, as well as a full range of standard-sized units.

The pedal lists for $99.95 and is available to preorder now. Shipping is expected on 15 November. More information at mrblackpedals.com.
