MXR has made its debut in the looper pedal category with the Clone Looper. This compact stomper is touted to cover a wide range of needs, including home practice, live compositions and studio usage. Its key feature is signal reproduction of higher fidelity than “any other looper of its type”, according to MXR.

Specs-wise, the Clone Looper features up to six minutes of recording time, unlimited dubs and a flashing four-count sequence that cues you in ahead of loops. The pedal also comes with storage sample rates of up to 88.2kHz, a factor which helps the unit handle highly processed signals such as high-gain distortion, as MXR says.

Controls on the Clone Looper include a pair of footswitches – play/stop and rec/dub – and a master volume knob. You’ll be able to extend the looper’s capabilities with CTR and EXP inputs. CTR lets you plug-in a tap tempo switch, while EXP connects to either a volume pedal or tap tempo switch. With a tap tempo switch connected via EXP, you can access the looper’s Play Loop Once mode, which lets you re-trigger your loop repeatedly for DJ-style stutter effects.
