Fresh out of MXR’s custom shop is Raijin Drive, an overdrive/distortion pedal designed by acclaimed Japanese builder Shin Suzuki.

Suzuki, who also worked on MXR’s Shin-Juku Drive, designed Raijin Drive with two channels: overdrive and distortion. Both channels are recreations of iconic Japanese stompers, according to MXR.

In terms of character, the OD is designed to be smooth and fat, while the distortion is voiced for a rich, aggressive punch. Each channel is also touted to complement your axe’s sound instead of overshadowing it. You’ll be able to toggle between the two channels with a central switch, while the unit’s drive flavour can be sculpted with level, drive and tone controls.

Overall, Raijin Drive’s tonal range and simple operation add a modern touch to its box of vintage-leaning drive sounds.

Available from 1 May. Retails at $129.99. More info at jimdunlop.com.
