Fender has enlisted the funk sensibilities of Nile Rodgers in its latest demo video for the Acoustasonic Stratocaster.

Performing Inside The Box – an original tune penned by Rodgers to show off the Acoustasonic Strat’s diverse tone options – the guitarist broke out into his signature playing style, which was tracked by engineer Russell Graham in a variety of different ways. Take a listen above.

Fender also shared a note sent by Rodgers to Graham on his various observations about the instrument. In his message, Rodgers noted that running the instrument through an electric guitar amplifier yielded “interesting and sometimes unexpected tones”.

“In particular, we found that the acoustic/electric blended voice, with traditional guitar amplification applied, was reminiscent of a classic hollow-body jazz guitar,” Rodgers explained.

The demonstration is the latest of several new videos that Fender put out to showcase its Acoustasonic series. In a previous video, the brand featured country musician Lindsay Ell running the guitar through her pedalboard for an in-studio session.

In our review of the Acoustasonic Stratocaster, we noted that while the instrument is unlikely to replace your main acoustic guitar, it does encourage you to think differently about both the music and sounds you make.
