NAMM 2020: Nobels announces the ODR-1BC

NAMM 2020: Nobels has revealed an update to its classic 1980s overdrive, the ODR-1BC.

Nobel’s new version of the straightforward overdrive adds an internal bass-cut switch, as well as the option to run the pedal at anything between nine and 18 volts – with higher voltages offering more headroom. These added features, Nobels says, “haven’t altered the fundamental tone and vibe of the original, but have increased the versatility of the pedal massively for modern rigs.”

The other controls – the Drive, Spectrum and Level knobs – remain, controlling the amount of gain, tonal characteristics and output of the pedal respectively. In any case, we can expect the same overdrive voice as the original ODR-1, which Nobels describe as more “open” in comparison to the “nasal” trend for overdrives on the market when the pedal debuted.

The introduction of the OBR-1BC also comes with the announcement that Audio Distribution Group (ADG) has been appointed as distributor for all Nobels’ products across Europe, excluding Germany, and in the United Kingdom.

Nobels CEO Bernhard Kurzke said of the partnership: “our direct distribution concept in our home country of Germany last year created great feedback with local dealers and musicians and an unexpected boost in sales. However, to best serve the demand outside Germany we have agreed to ADG’s approach. This strong distribution partner is very experienced with mainstream and boutique product and understands the pedal market extremely well. This cooperation will give us more time for our upgrades and new innovative models.”

Bruce Davidson, ADG’s COO also said: “ADG is more than delighted to work with Bernhard and his team with the excellent Nobels line of products. We’ve been fans of the brand and products for many years and look forward to a long and fruitful relationship in the years to come.”
