Origin Effects announces the Magma57, offering 50s Magnatone-style tones in a box

The pedal’s core is based on the RevivalDRIVE platform – updating the amp circuitry to deliver the kind of clean and overdriven sounds that Magnatone amps were known for.
Activated with a secondary footswitch is the Vibrato circuit. A three-way blend switch means that the pedal offers three different vibrato tones. Blending the wet and dry signals in phase creates Uni-Vibe-style phasing, and blending them 180 degrees out of phase creates a unique chorus effect. The central position is purely wet signal – with the speed and intensity controlled with the pedal’s two larger knobs. The speed also has three multiplication settings for a much wider range of control.
Following on from the vibrato and preamp sections is the post-drive EQ. This sports a three-way switch and adjustment control to make sure the output of the pedal suits whatever you’re plugging it into, be it a full guitar amp or a flat-response power-amp, or even a mixer or interface. Plugging in an external footswitch allows for the use of tap tempo.
Origin Effects founder Simon Keats said of the pedal: “When we got a few different vintage Magnatone amps up on the workbench, we discovered that we loved the vibrato circuit that’s found in the mono 260 and stereo 280 models but the smaller 213 Troubadour model, which has a more basic single-stage vibrato, sounds fantastic when driven hard. So, we decided to combine the best of both – the lush two-stage vibrato from the top-of-the-range models with the preamp, tone control and power amp from the Troubadour.”
The Magma57 is available now, listing for £385 / $459. The pedal is an unofficial tribute and there’s no affiliation between the brands. Find out more at origineffects.com.
