The latest RevivalDRIVE pedal from Origin Effects is the RD Compact Hot Rod. It aims to recreate the experience of playing through a vintage hot-rodded amplifier.

The pedal’s analogue design is inspired by the amp techs of the 70s and 80s, who pushed amps to form the sounds of hard rock and early heavy metal.

“Discrete transistors stand in place of valves, right down to the push-pull output stage and specially designed power supply which introduces just the right amount of sag,” the brand said in a statement.

“All this means that this super-realistic pedal not only replicates the sounds but also the dynamics and feel of coveted hot-rodded amps,” Origin Effects added.

The pedal has seven different control parameters, including Gain, Output and a blend control. EQ options include High and Low controls to shape both ends of the drive’s character. Meanwhile, the More/Pres knob alters presence and how the drive responds to pick attacks.

The RD Compact Hot Rod also includes post-drive EQ controls, as seen on other RevivalDRIVE pedals. This filter helps accommodate the drive to different setups – including FX returns and flat-response power amps.
