NAMM 2020: Positive Grid’s Spark is a smart amplifier, complete with an accompanying app, that packs a number of intelligent features into a tabletop-amp form factor.

The Spark lets you access 10,000 tone presets, with various preamp and effect models on offer. It has a standard control panel, but can also be remotely tweaked by the app.

The app is more than just a remote control, however, as it tracks your playing to accompany you with bass and drums, responding to your playing style. It also interfaces with streaming services such as Spotify, Apple Music and YouTube music to detect and display chords as the song plays. This comes soon after the introduction of Fender Play, an app that also displays chords as you stream music.

The amp also acts as an audio interface, letting you record directly or use your own virtual amps. And to confirm the amp as a piece of smart technology, it will respond to your voice commands – ask the amp to play a backing track of a certain genre, or easily recall your most-used settings.

The spark starts at $179 and will be available to preorder soon. More information at positivegrid.com.
