This year’s edition of Experience PRS would have celebrated the brand’s 35th anniversary in person – had it not been called off due to COVID-19. Despite this, the brand has decided to release the Modern Eagle V electric guitar that was planned especially for the show.
The Experience PRS 2020 Modern Eagle V has a mahogany and maple body construction, paired with a 22-fret mahogany neck and a Honduran rosewood fingerboard with “old school” bird inlays.
It sports a humbucker-single-humbucker pickup layout, with the brand’s TCI (tuned capacitance inductance) humbuckers in the bridge and neck, and a narrow single coil in the middle.
In addition to a five-way pickup selector, volume control and tone knob, the guitar offers a host of sophisticated control options for further tonal variety.
Two mini-toggle switches can be engaged to separate the slug-side coils, turning both humbuckers into “TCI-tuned” single coils. The tone control has a push/pull function that can activate both humbuckers; allowing players to play all three pickups simultaneously.
Finally, there’s a third mini-toggle switch that drops the volume pot’s value from 500k down to 250k, bringing a significantly different sonic palette to the guitar’s signal.
The Experience PRS 2020 Modern Eagle V comes in two distinct finishes: Charcoal (below) and River Blue. The guitar is produced in a small batch of 200 instruments and is available via a select group of authorised PRS Dealers.

Discussing the instrument in a press release, Paul Reed Smith wrote:
“While Experience PRS 2020 was unable to happen at the PRS Factory this year, it is important to us to still release the products we had planned to the guitar community.
These Modern Eagle guitars are very sophisticated pieces of gear both electronically and mechanically. They are highly musical instruments.”
The Experience PRS 2020 Modern Eagle V is available for $5,500/£5340.
