NAMM 2020: While we saw a wave of new introductions to PRS’ 2020 lineup, the brand also has brought the McCarty 594 guitars to the affordable S2 range for the first time.

There are three guitars in the series: the S2 McCarty 594, the S2 McCarty 594 Singlecut and the McCarty 594 Thinline.

In true PRS-style, these guitars offer up vintage-focused appointments without sacrificing the attention to detail and craftsmanship the brand is known for. The guitars are also the first McCarty models to be offered outside PRS’ Private Stock and Core lines.

All three of the S2 McCarty 594 models are loaded with 58/15 “S” pickups, and can split their coils for extra versatility. Double volume and tone controls also mean instant switching from low-output single-coil clarity to full-on humbucker snarl with the flick of a switch.

Each of the S2 McCarty 594 instruments feature 22-fret mahogany necks with bound rosewood fretboards, as well as a PRS zinc two-piece bridge and vintage-style tuners. Both maple top versions, double cut and Singlecut, sport a ‘Pattern Vintage’ neck shape. The Thinline version, meanwhile, has (unsurprisingly) a thinner, one-piece, all-mahogany body and a ‘Pattern Thin’ neck shape.

Jim Cullen, PRS Guitars Director of Sales, said of the announcement: “The PRS S2 Series was created to offer a new style, both sonically and aesthetically, that still maintained PRS’ DNA. It has been an exciting journey growing this series of instruments, and we are proud to bring two of our most beloved models into the S2 world. The Thinline is the icing on the cake: an all-new model that is handsome, dynamic, and a ton of fun to play.”

The non-thinline models are available in Burnt Amber Burst, Dark Cherry Sunburst, Elephant Gray, Faded Blue Smokeburst, McCarty Sunburst, Scarlet Red or Whale Blue finishes, while the thinline comes in either Antique White, black, Frost Blue Metallic, Frost Green Metallic, McCarty Tobacco Burst or Vintage Cherry.
