Take a look inside Steve Vai’s insane guitar collection

Handles and whammy bars abound.

It might be hard to find just one word to sum up Steve Vai’s guitar collection, given its vastness. Whatever that word is, however, it’s certainly not ‘subtle’ – as Vai opening the above video holding a combination harp-electric guitar will prove. Reverb.com took a trip down to Vai’s personal guitar collection, stored in “The Harmony Hut” to take a look at his impressive collection of shred machines. Have a look above.

In the video Vai shows off some truly unique guitars, including one that was a birthday gift from fellow shred legend Joe Satriani (which had been both blowtorched and painted with an endearing birthday message), a triple-neck heart-shaped guitar (an acquisition inspired by Micheal Angelo Batio’s multiple-neck shred prowess) and a 30-fret guild.

Recently, at this year’s NAMM, Ibanez updated Vai’s signature JEM with the PIA signature, which he also demonstrates above. Perhaps the most significant departure from the JEM is the ‘Petal Grip’ that replaces Vai’s original ‘Monkey Grip’.
